Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good basin size?

Wash basins are available in a wide range of shapes and sizes. Working out the perfect option for you depends on three key factors: how much available space you have, the type of bathroom you’re building and how your basin or bathroom sink is going to be used.

Length (measuring across, left to right), width (front to back) and depth (top to bottom) are the key measurements to be aware of when finding your ideal basin size. There’s a lot of variation based on the style of basin you choose.

For example, cloakroom basins tend to be smaller, with ours measuring 40-50cm in length. Our larger solid surface basins, on the other hand, are available in lengths from 60cm to 140cm.

How many types of wash basin are there?

There are many different types of wash basin, with cloakroom basins, counter top basins and vanity units three of the most popular options found in most bathrooms.

Cloakroom basins are a great option for smaller bathrooms thanks to their more compact design. This type of wash basin is available in two space-saving styles – wall mounted basins or corner basins – and is perfect for a more modern bathroom design compared with the classic appeal of a pedestal basin. For the extra storage they provide alone, vanity units are the ultimate compliment to cloakroom basins

Counter top basins are exactly as they sound – a basin or sink that sits on top of a vanity unit. Like cloakroom basins, counter tops are often found in contemporary bathrooms. They’re available in a wide range of shapes, styles and sizes.

Vanity units combine a wash basin or bathroom sink with a below storage unit to form a single, convenient piece of bathroom furniture.

Is there a difference between a sink and a basin?

Nowadays the two terms are interchangeable for most people – including us! – but they do mean different things.

A basin is a bowl we wash ourselves – mainly our hands and face – in, and so it’s what we commonly find in bathrooms and toilets. Sinks, on the other hand, are where we wash kitchenware and sometimes prepare food, and so they’re what we find in kitchens and pantries.
